Add-on Wireless Light SwitchesAt one point, electrical codes for bathrooms required the light switch to be on the outside. My apartment building is a great example of that. I have been trained to click the light before I go in the room, but when guests are over, I must always yell. "Switch is on the outside!" Nine times out of ten, I always hear back, "Where is the light?" Adding a new light switch or moving the existing switch can be a daunting or even impossible task. In the case of my apartment, I do not think the owners would like me digging into their walls! Even in your home, running new wires and fixing an electrical box is usually more work then it is worth. So, you leave the switch where it is and perhaps hang a sign on the door. It does not have to be that complicated. Wireless wall switches can be installed in impossible areas; giving you the ability to add a second switch to a room or, in my case, adding a switch to the inside of the bathroom. The installation is fairly easy for someone that is familiar with basic wiring and handy with a screwdriver. Generally, you have two components, a receiver switch and a transmitter switch. The receiver would replace your current switch. Don’t worry, the switch will still work as it always does. Then, the transmitter is mounted where you want the new switch. You can then turn the light on and off from either switch! For me, it saved my voice, but for you it could mean turning off the lights from your night stand or not taking the long trek down the hallway to turn off a light. Also, with added accessories like motion sensors, remotes and electrical outlets, you can customize your wireless lighting to fit your needs perfectly. | ||
