XLink Cellular Docking Station FAQHow many cellular phones are compatible with the Xlink? Almost every Bluetooth cell phone model is compatible. You can have up to three cellphones hooked up to the XLink at the same time. Do I need to have an active wireline service to use the XLink? No, you do not need to have an active wireline service to use the XLink, however, you can still keep it if you wish, providing your home is two-line ready. Can I get rid of my wireline service and still use the XLink? Yes, you can eliminate wireline service and still use the XLink. A significant advantage of using the XLink is that you can cancel your wireline telephone service and "Cut The Cord", going fully wireless. With the cost savings from eliminating wireline service, the XLink will help pay for itself in just a couple of months. Do I need to have a two-line telephone to place and receive both cellular and landline calls? That is the easiest way to access either service. However, you may also use one-line phones by designating certain phones as wireline phones and certain phones as wireless phones, by using a 3-way splitter or by using a 2-line switch similar to what you would use if you had two land lines. Can I dock two cell phones at the same time to one XLink? Yes, the XLink is designed to connect to up to three cell phones at a time. If a second call rings while you are using the line it will sound just like your call waiting and you can "flash" over to pick up that line. You cannot talk on two cell phones at the same time. What happens if I am using my home telephone during a cellular call and there is an incoming landline call? When you use the XLink, you can treat all your calls like they are wireline calls. Simply put the call on hold and answer the other incoming call. What if there are multiple cell phones we want to dock in the home? The XLink is capable of docking with over 1100 different cell phones, but you may only dock with one cell phone at a time. It takes only seconds to change from one docked cell phone to another. What if I want a completely wireless home for my phone service? You may have up to five extension telephones connected through your internal wiring to the same pair of wires connected to the XLink. This will allow you to place cell phone calls and receive cell phone calls from those extension telephones. The extension telephones can be connected using your existing telephone jacks and will function as if you had wireline service. What about Caller ID and Caller ID for Call Waiting? If your extension telephone set is Caller ID and/or Caller ID-Call Waiting capable, and your receive Caller ID on your cell phone, the Caller ID name and number will be able to be displayed on your extension telephone set depending on your cell phone's capabilities. The Caller ID may not be available for some models of cell phones, even if it shows up on the cell phone display. Can I use the Voice Dialing feature of my cell phone? Yes you can if your cell phone is able to support this feature. By saying the name of any voice dial tags that are programmed into your cell phone, the call will be connected. Can I use the One-Touch dialing keys of my cell phone? Yes you can if your cell phone is able to support this feature. By pressing the one touch dialing key on your extension telephone set, you will be connected to your one key speed dials of your cell phone and the call will be placed. What happens if I purchase a new cellular phone? Your XLink is able to connect to new cell phones without having to purchase new equiptment. What about Voice Mail messages? You can immediately be connected to your voice mail service. Can I use an Answering Machine instead of Voice Mail? Yes. Simply connect the answering machine as normal. If you have Voice Mail service on your cell phone, make sure that the answering machine is set to pick up the call before your Voice Mail does. What is Bluetooth technology? Bluetooth is a low-power, short-range, RF technology that allows the connection of intelligent communications devices or appliances in a household or office in a short-range wireless network. Examples of Bluetooth applications are transferring data between cell phones, radios, pagers, personal digital assistants (PDA's), notebook computers, video and still cameras, audio players, and local area networks. Are there any monthly fees with XLink? No, the purchase of the XLink is a one-time cost and there are no other charges associated with its use other than your monthly cell phone bills. How do I answer Call Waiting? When you hear the Call Waiting beep, you can use the FLASH button on your extension telephone set to connect to the second caller just as you would with a wireline call. Pressing the FLASH button on your extension telephone set may toggle between the two callers if the feature is supported by your cell phone. Can I connect an antenna to my cell phone while it is connected to the XLink? Yes, you may connect an external antenna at any time to your cell phone (if it supports an antenna connection) while it is connected to the XLink. Does the XLink work with modems, fax machines, security systems, credit card readers, TiVo, DirecTV, or other satellite TV systems Digital voice networks do not support modem or fax tones. Older analog cellular service will allow use of modems and fax at very low speeds but is expected to be discontinued later this year. However, the digital voice networks do allow the passing of DTMF tones to transmit information to such as devices as IVR systems that require touch tones.
